Thirty nine drivers from Qld, NSW and the Northern Territory have nominated for Saturday night's AMCA Nationals Qld Title at Titan Garages Brisbane International Speedway (BIS).
Renowned for their close racing, the 2010 Qld Title field is a competitive one with a number of genuine contenders for the Title including Shane McKinnell, Jason Dreaver and Russ Hardy nominating for the event. McKinnell is a big race specialist having won the Australian Title while Dreaver has won two Features this year at BIS, including the Barry Sullivan Memorial event last month. Hardy goes into the Qld Title as a last start winner at Archerfield and has three consecutive podium finishes at the track.
Saturday night's program at Archerfield also features Round 8 of the Qld Speedway Spares Series for 410ci Sprintcars, with Pete Thorley holding a twenty-six point lead over Richard Morgan in the race for the Championship. The nominations list has been trimmed to twenty-eight but it's still a difficult task to pick a pre-race favourite from the likes of James McFadden, Andrew Scheuerle, Danny Reidy, Darrell Hodges, Peter Lack, Thorley, Morgan, Todd Wanless and Allan Woods to name just a few.
Australian Junior Sedan Champion Cody Maroske heads a twenty-one car field for Round 9 of the Robertson Gardens Comfort Inn Series, the reigning National Champ chasing another win to add to his tally for the season. Lee McKinnell won Round 8 of the Series at BIS on March 27.
There'll be plenty of on-track action during tomorrow night's bumper program with Sprintcars, AMCA Nationals, ASCF Junior Sedans, Track Championship events for the Ford v Holden Sedans and Brisbane Sedan classes plus the amazing Fire Blowing Daihatsu Jet Car and a huge Fireworks show for the kids.
Capping the program will be the Maroons vs Blues Demolition Derby, presented by Self Serve Auto Parts, with thirty-four drivers lining up for the annual crash fest between the two States. The Maroons have belted the Blues the past four years and are gunning for five from five, and with a parochial Qld crowd behind them they will start favourites to continue their run of victories.
Family value passes are available for this event, with two adults and two children aged twelve and under through the general admission gates for just $60.00. Early racing from 4:45pm, main program from 6:00pm.
