As the new decade settles into place and count down is on as we approach the Australian AMCA Nationals Championship at the Murray Bridge Speedway this weekend the opportunity presented it’s self for Raymond Hedley and the Hedley Motorsport team to reflect back on December 09 and how the turning of the decade panned out of the distinctive blue and yellow SA53 machine.
December proved quite a busy time for the Hedley team taking in three meetings; two at Speedway City with a meeting at the Tolmer Speedway located at Bordertown sandwiched in between plus a Speedway car display at U-Pull-It Auto Dismantlers Elizabeth to round off a busy month.
The three race meetings presented the team with a mixed bag of results, some strong encouraging signs of speed along with a few disappointing mechanical gremlins and unfortunate racing incidents along the way. The heat races proved to be prosperous with Raymond advancing to set himself up with a solid launching pad for the feature races. The two Speedway City events each had 18 and 20 cars respectively in attendance and on both occasions Ray had qualified in sixth position for the main event only to unfortunately fail to finish the events while holding down a strong position. Bordertown also ended on a disappointing note; starting inside the top ten once again Raymond copped a shunt from a fellow competitor which provided just enough damage to retire the SA53 prematurely once again.
Despite the disappointments there were also lots of upside for Raymond and the team which included winning a heat race on the largest stage of the season in front of almost 10,000 people at Speedway City on Boxing day, the event was telecasted on the World Series Sprintcars giant video screen and Raymond received some great exposure for his local sponsors, many who were in attendance on the night. Back in the pit area Raymond has been kept busy each night signing many autograph cards for the race fans and kids who stop by at the end of the evening to have a friendly chat and close up look of the cars at the end of the nights racing.
The Hedley Motorsport Team will fire up for action this weekend for the running of the Australian AMCA Nationals Championship to be staged at the Murray Bridge Speedway from Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th of January 2010.
